David is so full of positive emotion in this one, and I think that contextualizes the sweeping promises of God’s protection and availability. Certainly I do not capture the poetic nature of the original text, but I do try to translate that emotion into modern language. When thinking how to rewrite ‘glorious splendor’ in verse 12, I was reflecting that many Christians talk about the ‘riches’ of God, but we don’t use the word ‘riches’ to describe any human (e.g. the riches of Elon Musk, lol). Verse 8 is quite similar to Psalm 86 verse 15. For a reliable version, please see the English Standard Version.

Let’s go, God. Let’s go! I’m so pumped right now. You’re my God, my leader! I’m forever on your side — I will devote my life to this! To you! To your fame!

I’ll be your hype man till the day I die!

One literally cannot count the number of praiseworthy aspects of Jesus, so we’re stuck with celebrating the few that we know a lot.

Each generation of people that partner with you and witness the amazing things you do will tell the younger generation about you and the process will just repeat!

I often find myself marveling and who you are and what you do.

So you can count on me to keep spreading the word, but I know there’s many like me who can’t shut up about the powerful things you do.

They constantly celebrate your insane levels of consistency and benevolence.

You’re full of mercy and grace. You become angry very slowly. Your loyalty, patience, and reliability are through the roof.

There is not one inch of the world, not one living being that hasn’t benefited from the overflow of Jesus’s character.

Everything you do (including forming people) inevitably results in applause.

Your people shout of your significance and strength.

Your people advertise your money and power.

Your jurisdiction is permanent.

You’re always there to catch us and to encourage us.

Everyone relies on your orchestration of the universe for agricultural production.

You are happy to provide.

You are so kind and consistent.

You are so available and responsive to those genuinely and reverently seeking you.

You are so happy to give them what they want, including protection!

Especially production! But as of evil people, I do not envy their pending destruction!

I am happy with my lifelong commitment to celebrate you, and I hope everyone will join me in the eternal song.
