Do Not Destroy: Part 2 — Destroy Them

This is a very intense one, particularly verse ten: ‘The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he will bathe his feet in the blood of the wicked.” (ESV) So let me know what you think of my rewriting. See my introduction to Psalm 57 for an explanation of the subtitle. For a reliable translation, please see the ESV version.

You think you see clearly? Like some sort of fair and impartial judge?

Well, you’re wrong. You do wrong and destructive things.

God, they’re irredeemable — and always have been! Nothing but perversion and lies since their birth.

Poisonous like a snake and cannot be tamed.

Even the most cunning among us cannot control them.

God, destroy what makes them dangerous — be ruthless if you need to, Jesus!

Make him disappear like smoke. Make his weapons harmless like children’s toys.

Make him pathetic and disgusting like a dying slug. Make him as tragic as a stillborn baby.

He can pop like a bubble or go out in flames — I don’t care how you do it, but do it quickly!

But this I know, when you give him what he deserves, the people with integrity, we will throw a huge party. This man is so bad it is so right to be so happy with his death!

Anyone who hears of what happens will be so convinced that God is a fair and impartial judge.
