God, be that wildfire and burn them to a crisp!

This one is very violent. It starts by asking God to pay attention to incoming enemies, then the author recounts all of the destruction God has done in the past and asks him to do it again. For a reliable translation, please see the ESV version.

Don’t just stand there — do something God!

Look at what’s happening — your enemies are getting excited…

They’re planning to attack your people!

They want to wipe us off the map!

They all are working together to take us down.

Everyone from Edom, Ishmael, Moab, Hagrit,

Gebal, Ammon, Amalek, Philistia, Tyre,

and Asshur.

Remember what you did to Midian, Sisera, and Jabin? Do that again!

You absolutely destroyed them before.

Remember what you did to those highbrow people from Oreb, Zeeb, Zebah, and Zalmuna? Do that again!

They thought they could take your stuff…

God, crush them into a pulp and spit them out!

You’ve seen wildfires destroy mountains of forests before.

God, be that wildfire and burn them to a crisp!

Absolutely embarrass them, and maybe they will begin to recognize you as King Jesus!

Rub mud in their faces and give them no burial!

Let them know who is king and who is in control!
